Most of our day to day campaigning and conservation work is done by volunteer committee members and funded by your membership fees. Occasionally we receive a larger donation from a Friend which means we can invest in longer term projects, and earlier this year we received a significant gift of £10,000 from Peter Grove.
Peter has a strong connection to the Quantocks, despite living overseas for many decades:
“I’m a retired schoolteacher, married these 50 years and living in America. The Quantocks, the Surrey Hills and the Wey Navigation all meant so much to me as a young man. I thank you for all that the team at the Friends are doing to protect the Quantocks.” – Peter Groves
Peter’s generous gift will help us deliver a second phase of the Elms & Hairstreaks conservation project, planting more trees this winter and continuing to map existing elms and the butterflies that rely on them.
As a retired teacher, Peter is also keen to support education and so we’ll be offering a complimentary copy of our ‘Nature of the Quantocks’ book to all the schools in the area.
If Peter’s story has inspired you, our Treasurer can supply details of how to donate to the charity – [email protected] Or take a look at providing a lasting legacy by leaving a gift in your will – www.friendsofthequantocks.org/legacies/
