Photo Walk: Somerset’s Perfect Hedgerow, Cothelstone Manor, Wednesday 9th November 10am-2pm (Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme)

Take a tour over the beautiful Quantocks with AONB ranger Andy Stevenson in search of Somerset’s perfect hedgerow.  The walk will be c3 miles long along fairly flat ground, and will include other historic features of the wonderful location. Beginner photographers and camera phones welcome, as well as more experienced photographers or just go and enjoy the experience – no camera necessary. More information and booking…

The Secret Life of Sea Anemones, Online Zoom, Wednesday November 16th 7-8.30pm (Somerset Wildlife Trust)

Find out about the sea anemones you are likely to encounter on our local coastline and the extraordinary lengths they will go to to protect their territory.  This talk by Dr Sarah Lane from Plymouth University is open to all and compliments the intertidal surveys being undertaken locally by SWT. More information and booking…

Photo Walk: Quantock Hills in December, Holford Bowling Green, Saturday 3rd December 10.30am-2pm (Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme)

Join QLPS for a Photo Walk from Holford taking in the surrounding area, history and heritage.  The 5km walk will go along Holford Glen, viewing the local waterfall, a favourite of the Wordsworths, then walking onto the hills, passing Alfoxton House, and heading back via Holford Combe for hot drinks and cake at Combe House Hotel. The walk will be a gentle pace with plenty of stops and nothing too hilly.  Bring your camera, or cameraphone, and take snapshots of the hills during our December day out. Sea Watch December Survey Watchet “Porpoises and Poetry”, Watchet Harbour, Sunday 4th December 2-4pm (Somerset Wildlife Trust & SeaWatch Foundation)

Take part in a 2 hour survey looking for dolphins, porpoises and other marine life of the Somerset Coast, no previous experience necessary as experts and ID guides will be available.  There will also be the opportunity to get creative whilst enjoying the beautiful coastline should you wish. More information and booking…

Bill’s Not-So-Scary Night Walk, Lydeard Hill, Wednesday 7th December, 7.30-9.30pm (Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme)

If you’ve not been night-walking before, it’s an entirely different experience to walking in the daytime. All your senses are on alert, the night-time noises are different to daytime sounds, and you’re lucky there will be stars to see too. Talk & Tea: The Nature of Somerset’s Coast, Taunton Museum, Friday 9th December 2.30-3.30pm (Southwest Heritage Centre)

A talk by ecologist and local author Nigel Phillips about his latest book ‘The Nature of Somerset’s Coast’.  The book is full of information on the different flaura and fauna of our coastline and draws on Nigel’s extensive experience writing two previous books on the subject and chairing Somerset Wildlife Trusts Marine Awareness Campaign. More information and booking…
