Last year English Heritage decided that the clump of trees on Cothelstone Hill was damaging a heritage monument and should be felled.
We made representations that the clump also had a visual importance and arranged a meeting on the hill after which it was decided to carry out an archaeological survey and determine the right place for a properly planned and planted replacement clump to maintain the well-known silhouette.
The survey has been done and a planting scheme prepared and it is hoped to plant the trees this autumn.
