Have you noticed that Wilmot’s Pool car park has recently undergone renovation work?
The works were undertaken by the Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme, with some match-funding from Friends of the Quantocks.
Our investment of £40,000 forms part of a £2.6m project over five years, for an ambitious programme of works and activities in and around the Quantock Hills.
£20,000 of our funding went specifically towards the costs of the car park repair project, as well as some general landscape management work. Previous funding went towards the purchase of an all-terrain Alpine tractor that can reach and maintain previously inaccessible areas of the hills.
Friends of the Quantocks is run by a small committee of volunteers (and a part-time project officer) and we have a big ambition to protect, conserve and promote the Quantock Hills. We do this for the benefit of wildlife, the environment, the people who live here and work the land, and those of you in the surrounding communities who enjoy the nature and wildness of the Hills on your doorstep.
Creating safe public access to the Quantocks, that is sensitive to this special environment, is a priority for us. We want everyone to be able to get onto the hills and see the iconic red deer and the ponies, as well as the lesser-known creatures and the wonderfully diverse habitats.
John Andrews, former Chair of the Trustees: “We are proud of our long track record in partnering and supporting the work of organisations helping to improve and preserve public access across the Quantocks. This latest investment will have long term benefits for everyone who enjoys being out on the hills and it’s a very fitting way to celebrate our 75th anniversary.”
John is pictured presenting the cheque to William Jenman, Landscape Partnership Scheme Manager.
